Parish Garden

In the spring of 2023, with help from the Town of Hamden, we built three raised vegetable beds in the sunny backyard of the old Rectory next door to the church.  The house is now rented to one of our most active parish members, Allison Batson (founder of Dinner for a Dollar) and her family.

The town supplied the lumber and plenty of superb garden soil.  The work was done by our own Sue O'Connell and Frank Rubertone.  Despite a fairly late start (the third week in May!) the garden took off with a bang, and the yield was unbelievable!

In 2024 we added more raised beds on the strip of land between our property and the office building next door, filled with blueberry bushes and more vegetables.  In another corner of our property we started a raspberry patch; and we now also have a plot at the Hamden community garden at Town Center Park.   That plot is being cared for under Sue O'Connell's leadership, by enthusiastic volunteer gardeners who are not members of our church, as they tend their own plots in that community garden.
